Christmas Hill Farm Shop

About Us

The farm shop is situated in the historic Low Barn, which was once a cow shed and dairy.

We sell a first-class variety of meat including our own Christmas Hill Rare Breed beef and lamb, local pork, chicken, game and much more. Some rarer types are only available at certain times – feel free to call if you wish to know when you favourite breed is available.

As well as the meat we sell a range of produce from great preserves and chutneys to some wonderful local ice-cream. Also, some exciting examples of local produce are featured. We have visited the suppliers and tasted what they have to offer (the perks of the job!) to ensure that we only stock the very best of the local area.

We intend to have a full range and we are constantly adding to it as we discover more and more local suppliers.

Christmas Tree Farm

About Us

Christmas Tree Farm, Hawkwell is a dedicated family run Christmas tree farm that has been growing the finest real Christmas trees for over 25 years. We grow the trees and pride ourselves on providing the freshest best quality, real trees available. We hope you will come and visit us to see the friendly and fun environment, where the whole family can come and choose your very own tree.

We are one of the largest Christmas Tree outlets in the south of England. Our farm is a unique environment where you can choose from many thousands of freshly cut trees of many different varieties direct from us as growers. Don't choose your tree from a pile at outlets elsewhere that could have been cut as early as in October! Unlike most trees that can be found elsewhere, we at Christmas Tree Farm do not start cutting our trees until the end of November and continue cutting as required through December to ensure that we have the freshest trees available. The farm is a proud member of the British Christmas Tree Growers Association and supports excellence in the production of the best freshest real trees.

Woodford Meats Farm Shop

Welcome to Woodford Meats Farm Shop, Bolt Hall Farm, Lark Hill Road, Canewdon, near Rochford, Essex.

Bolt Hall Farm is a mixed arable and beef cattle farm which has been owned by the Woodford family since 1961. The land is predominantly ESA (Environmentally Sensitive Area) and SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and incorporates salt marsh grazing alongside the picturesque River Crouch.

Our cattle are raised in the traditional way – extensively on the salt marsh grazing, running with their calves at foot and our two bulls. We bring young stock into our spacious, straw-bedded barns during the harsh winter months, where they are fed on natural grains and straws which we grow on the farm.

No GM products or growth promoters are used in the production of our beef.

Butterfly Lodge Dairy & Farm Shop

We have a good client base for all our home grown meat and are pleased to see many of our customers returning again and again.

The latest products which only arrived in April 2006, are the Field Fare range of frozen pastries, fruit and vegetables. These have been long awaited by our loyal customers and we are hopeful they will be well received by new visitors too.

Our on site dairy produces fresh goats milk every day.

This is very good for young and old alike and very popular with customers who have allergies or are allergic to cows milk.

Our milk goes to clients who make their own goats cheese, yoghurts and other products.

It also provides all the milk for our own production of 'Caprilatte' ice cream, which is made in the dairy.

Cammas Hall Fruit Farm

Cammas Hall Farm is best known for its top quality soft fruit, at Farmers Markets and local shops and restaurants. However, the farm (of some 750 acres in total) also has a huge wild Fallow Deer population which has been growing at an alarming rate. The deer are causing a lot of damage to the fruit and arable crops as well as the irrigation system. It has been our wish for some time to supply top quality, locally grown food all year round. Our Fallow Deer problem seems to have turned into a blessing, as we have found since we started selling the meat at Farmers Markets between the months of October and April.

Venison from Fallow Deer is one of the most delicious meats in the world when correctly prepared and cooked. Tough, over gamey or tasteless venison is all too common, I am afraid. Very few people know how to deal with this beautiful meat. The venison we sell is only taken from young deer in season, shot and butchered professionally. Before being taken to a local butcher for preparation the beast is hung in a cold store at 3 to 4 degrees centrigrade for a week to ten days. The best cuts of meat are selected, boned and rolled, before vacuum packing.

All of our venison is fresh so it can either be eaten by the use by date or frozen. Venison freezes very well but should really be eaten within 6 months.

Venison is a lean meat, high in protein, low in cholesterol and is a wonderful low fat alternative to traditional red meats. Nutritional Information is provided.

New Barn Farm

Welcome to New Barn Farm

We are a smallholding in the small old fashioned Essex village of West Hanningfield.

Our Produce

We like to think that as our animals are well cared for and treated individually, this is reflected in the quality of the produce.

The Dexters produce high quality beef, with good marbling and excellant flavour with the cuts and joints being on a small scale. We also have a limited supply of Hereford beef which produce larger cuts but still with excellent flavour. This was an experiment for us as we purchased the Herefords to use up excess Haylage but as we have lost our supply this year, we have decided that going to only produce the Dexters.

The Gloucester Old Spot Pigs produce "old fashioned" pork with fantastic flavour and brilliant crackling. The bacon and gammons are also full of flavour and our local butcher who does our smoking and curing uses the traditional method.

The chickens and ducks produce excellent tasting eggs and we also have freerange table birds which actually are full of flavour unlike some of the chickens that you can buy in the supermarkets.

Our newest venture, is our recent purchase of the Texel Crossed sheep. We have decided to keep our lambs for a longer period and to sell them as Hoggets as they have a far superior flavour than lamb and can be cooked the same way.
